My name is Dustin Pillard. I bought my first miniature cattle back in 1993. I bought a pair of dexter cattle at an auction. Since that time, we have had about every breed there is. Miniature herefords, mini angus, mini jersey , mini zebu, mini texas longhorns, dexter, mini belted gallaway and about every cross. We like the small and colorful animals.
Our goal is to breed Western Heritage Miniature Cattle that are under 36 inches. We would like our cattle to look like the cattle the settlers first seen as they were moving west. A wide variety of colors including brindles, spotted and speckled as well as tri-colored animals. Our cows are classic looking and feminine while our bulls are muscular and athletic rather than beefy. Our conformation is similar to the longhorns of the Old West.
Our herd consists of about 20-30 cows that will calve every year. We keep a few heifers every year and have an additional 3-5 first time heifers calving.
We have young bulls available that we think would make good breeders. Other bulls we keep back that we think will improve our herd. Like this 18 month old bull, 26.5 inches tall next to a friend's English Mastiff.
Each year we sell 10-20 animals. From calves to heifers. Open and bred cows. Young and breeding age bulls.
We are breeding for size as well as disposition and conformation. We like small animals that take care of themselves. Most cows calve out in the pasture with little or no help.
We have sold our miniature cattle from Connecticut to California, Florida to New Mexico and Texas to Canada.
Auburn University has a group of miniature cattle that they are breeding through their vet school. Those original cattle were born & bred on our farm.
We have sold cattle to 33 states and Canada. Many are people who have been around cattle and now have kids or grandkids. They want to share their cattle experience with the next generation.
It is hard not to fall in love with a little mini calf that barely comes up to your knees.
